About this resource
Help your Grade 5 learner prepare for Term 1 Natural Science & Technology (NST) with this comprehensive ATP-aligned 40-mark practice test, complete with a full memorandum. The test has a duration of 45 minutes.
The test covers:
- Plants & Photosynthesis: understanding photosynthesis, the role of sunlight and carbon dioxide, and the functions of different plant parts, including the roots, stem and leaves.
- Ecosystems & Habitats: biotic and abiotic factors, habitats, producers, consumers and decomposers, as well as how living and non-living components interact within an ecosystem.
- Food Chains: identifying producers, primary consumers and tertiary consumers, and understanding how removing one organism can affect other populations within a food chain.
- Interdependence of Plants & Animals: understanding how plants and animals depend on one another for food, oxygen, carbon dioxide and seed dispersal, and why decomposers are important for returning nutrients to the soil.
- Materials & Their Properties: understanding conductors and elasticity and recognising how different materials behave.
- Plant Structure: using a labelled plant diagram to understand how roots absorb water and nutrients, stems transport water and nutrients, and leaves carry out photosynthesis.
Question types include: true or false, fill-in-the-blanks, matching, picture and diagram analysis, food-chain interpretation, short-answer questions and application questions.
